The Reflective Power of God's Light

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

Last night, my pastor preached that our humanity is like the moon which can only reflect back the light of the sun.   We are unable to generate our own light, but can only reflect the light of God.

This sermon reminded me of a trip my mother and I made years ago to visit the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis.  The Cathedral Basilica contains 41.5 million glass mosaics with over 7,000 colors composed in beautiful patterns and pictures.  The Basilica is lit primarily by one circular window opposite of the sanctuary.  The light from the single window reflects and sparkles on the glass mosaics and dances around the Nave of the Cathedral. The light reflecting on the mosaics also reminded me that reflective thought requires us to accept the love of God in order to evaluate our own thoughts and actions.  The definition of reflect means to give back or show an image.  When we surrender to God, our soul lights up through his presence, and we shine or reflect the image of God who is love.

The Prayer of Children

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people He choose for His inheritance.” Ps. 33:12

Today as I was driving I turned to the radio station 99.1 Joy FM, a Christian station, in St. Louis.  Children all across the region were calling in to the station from the flag pole at their local school.  The number of children gathered around the flag pole at each school varied between one and thirty or more.  They were gathered in prayer.

In this time of the nation when we are in the midst of divisive politics, coming together in prayer, releases the Holy Spirit in us to make the best decisions for our nation, decisions for our common good.  My parents knew the difficulties of the Depression and world war and made sacrifices so I could have a better life.  This nation will not move forward until we work to bring forward the least of us and give them equal opportunities.  Like us, none of our leaders are without sin and faults, but many endure the harshness and viciousness of the media scrutiny, so that they may better the nation for all of us.

We need to listen with open hearts and minds.  We need to listen, educate ourselves, and most of all realize that unless we surrender to God as a people, our nation will not be blessed.  The Bible is the Word of God, written by man, inspired by God.  Unless we truly are open to the Holy Spirit and revelation, we will be stuck in arguing about whether people created by God as they are, are worthy of love, acceptance and equality.  I know that only through God at work in my life, have I overcome my sins which are many.  He has granted me grace beyond what I could ever deserve and accepted me for who I am.  This is the least I can do for my fellow citizens and leaders as I bow my head in prayer.with the children in St. Louis.

Faith and Open Doors

Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  Matthew 7:7

Yesterday, I received a Facebook post reminder from September 26, 2012.  In the post I wrote that “I believe that we are on a human and transcendent journey and we have forgotten the connection that is God which binds us together.  We believe in freedom because God granted that gift which is precious and a sign of great love.  What we do with that gift is therefore up to us.”

Yesterday was an exercise in my faith of God’s love.  I believe God has called me to be a wife and mother and to network my idea of God, higher consciousness and communication. It is within my innermost soul.  I cannot be those things unless I surrender myself to God.  I wrote in January 2015 in one of my most viewed blog posts, “Do I trust my mind now enough to work at the metaphysical level, to let my thoughts flow to others, to see the endless views, and to experience God without constraint.  To see the multifaceted meanings in all of us that others do not see who are earth bound in thoughts and actions – to experience in all in my new home?”

God did not grant me that house at that time, because I was not building the right house that was consistent with my soul and God’s will for me.  But God in his mercy, gives second chances for course corrections and I am now building my dream home.  It has a beautiful layout and has all the right elements of a functional family home.  As I went through the contracting process, I realized I already knew the right model and options.   I especially love the wall of windows in the family room with a fireplace for those cold winter days.  I envision a bright red door welcoming in visitors at Christmas and all year long.  I am hoping the house will be ready next Spring.

Although I know the house won’t be “perfect” it will have plenty of space and be filled with love.  I  dream of  a “messy” life full of joy and gratitude for my many blessings.
